You may have heard the phrase, the money is in the list, and I’m here to tell you, that’s absolutely true. When you can utilize an email list to build a long term relationship with clients, your results will be truly powerful.
Gaining new clients and keeping those new clients involved and friendly with your business isn’t as cut and dry as it used to be. Just being “good” isn’t good enough anymore. You can be a great photographer and a lousy marketer and while you may get some clients, you will never realize your full potential or success.
It’s not simply a case of marketing to potential clients. It’s about one day converting those on your email list from just readers or potential clients into actual paying clients. How do we do that? Through the smart email list building tactics I’m about to tell you about.
Give Them Something for Free
Everyone likes to get something for free. One of the best ways to encourage someone to join your subscriber list is by giving them a free gift. It doesn’t even have to cost you anything. It can be something as a “free report” that you make available to them once they have confirmed their subscription, or maybe it’s a discount code they can bring in to you to be used on their next service.
Make Your Sign Up Form Easy
Don’t try to collect every piece of information about your subscribers. All you really need is an email address so that you can send your information to them. If you want to customize your messages, then first name is also acceptable. keep your form short and simple and give absolutely no reason or complication for not signing up. Be sure your sign up form is available on the first page of your website so that nobody has to go looking for it. It should be the first thing they see when they enter your main website or blog.
Make it Easy to Invite Their Friends
Photography is a family friendly service that is probably one of the most shared services available. Everyone is talking about their favorite photographer on social media, online forums and via email. Make the most of this viral spreading and let your clients spread your email list around for you. Give them an easy “share this with a friend” link that will let them invite their friends to your email list or even just forward their latest email from you to their friend with an easy signup form link near the bottom.
Be Consistent in Your Marketing
If you have an email list but don’t market to them regularly you are shooting yourself in the foot. If you haven’t sent anything to them to remind them that you’re still there and ready to help them, they may forget about you and move on to someone else. If at all possible, send your list something on a regular basis such as daily, weekly or at least monthly.
Provide More Than Just a Promotion
While your subscribers probably joined your email list to learn about special offers, promotions and your services, give them more than just a promo when you send out your emails. Send them useful information such as “what to look for in a wedding photographer” or “what should you wear for your portrait session”. Give them valuable content that will make them want to stay subscribed to your list instead of just opting out because they felt it was “spammy”.
Use a Professional Email List Service
While you could make every attempt to handle your email list manually, it’s just not a good idea nor is it very professional. The cost of email lists are quite low and if you’re using your email list correctly, it shouldn’t be any cause of concern. Not only can I send out broadcasts but it will even send out my latest post on my blog to my subscribers.
If you have a photography business and you aren’t utlizing an email list, you are missing the boat. It’s a fantastic way to gain potential clients and maintain current clients making it a crucial marketing strategy for your photography business.
